random stuff

Some rough animation tests, just to test my rigs out really, both rig and animation still need work :P
Also my Pre-vis as it stood today.
At about 1:10 when h does a magic floating back roll thing that looks retarded, he will roll backwards into a handstand and flip over onto his feet. i was just far too lazy, and my weights are far form done on that character.

opening Pre-Vis Shot

quick look at my basic previs for my opening shot, the shadowy bit im unsure about still, but if i go with that idea, the shadows you see will be shown 1 at a time with the main Fighter and killed accordingly.

Been playing about in pred for my viva, heres the sort of thing i want to focus down onto for my opening shot, He will look angrier, i just havent done my blend shapes yet cos im a slacker!
Oh, if this is dark let me know, on my pc it looks perfect (in my eyes) but it may be too dark
Still considering putting an island in the background that shows the village that the fight takes place in later, to give some sort of reason as to why hes over looking the sea... other than the fact hes angry :P
Just 2 quick renders of roughly where the 2 characters are at, not final textures yet, and still need to finish weight painting, etc etc etc
No idea why hes suddenly developed a Afro, ill fix it soon, just a quick test to see how they look in the scene etc

Quick update.....

After my Stage 1 presentation i realised the temple was out of focus most the time, so ive re-arranged slightly, this is the new opening shot and hopefully if itll work the main sort of angle the shots will be taken from, bring the temple back into the shot more

Bits and bobs....

Just a few shots of my "bad guy" as he stands atm, not happy and his base textures needs some work so it stands out (other than a back light) Aswell as this, he will have wires running along his head that will glow red slightly, like later seen on the back of his head.


Because of the use of the glowing eyes and red wire son his face, i decided he needed some sort of power supply if you will that runs his mask and eyes etc, like its a powered head unit he wears 

This is a rough look at my "second scene" the scene when he remembers his village beign sluaghterd, against this wall shadows of people being cut down including a Little girl holding a bear will be shown. 

Just a quick shot to show what sort of area a majority of the 3rd scene will be shot at. the camera will move and cut between close ups and spinning around them, but the majority will be within this shot.

The Script, Plot, and Pitch....

Pitch
My simple pitch is the idea of a Revenge themed fight scene, a man will be fighting one of the men who are responsable for the slaughter of hsi village, This is ment to be a cinematic form a game, so i wanted to show a small story but opening up into a much bigger story 9the game) to do this i felt i had to roughly show an event explaining the past, allowing me to then do the main fight scene. but leaving it so the story has not ended. Just that chapter has.
Plot
The story will open out with a shot of a dark cloudy sky, it will be raining with flashs of Lightning and thunder...
This shot will pan down to show a figure stood on a cliff edge overlooking the sea
The scene will then flash to a faded blurry image overlaying the cliff scene giving the effect of a memory. This scene will show you some shots of a wall with the shadows of men, women and children being massacred by someone.
The idea of this shot is to set the start, give you some understanding of what has happend and to set up what will happen later in the film.
This the scene will fade to black
The next scene will open to a scene off a small village with a small temple and some buildings around it. the focus will be on the temple with one of its doors opened inwards. there will be a laugh from within the temple. and The figure seen at the start will walk onto shot from the left. he will shout out to the temple. A second man will walk out from the temple, a more sinister evil looking figure with a mask covering his face leaving just his eyes really visible these will be like red voids.
After 20 seconds or so of heated conversation a fight will break out between the two, This scene will consist of face pased snappy cuts of the action during the sword fight.
This fight will continue for 45-50 seconds until character 2 is cut down and will fall to his knees.... The character will simply turn his back to character 2. character 2 will then fall face down into the dirt and blood will start to pool around him, Character 1 will leave some sort of sign he was there and walk away, Possably a teddy from one of the sluaghterd children of his village
Script
Scene1:
0.01- 0.10
The scene opens up to a view of a stormy sky, the Camera slowly pans down to a show of the main character stood on a cliff side overlooking the sea with a lightning rain storm going on in the background
This scene will half cross fade into a memory.
Scene1 part2:
0.10-0.35
The scene will only be a shot of a wall with the shadows of characters being slaughterd this wont last too long as it is purely ment to add some back story to set the scene for the future event.
The scene will fade to black: 0.33-0.38
Scene 2 :
0.38- 1.50
The scene will fade in from black: 0.38-0.42
The scene that opens up is a small settlement with a Temple and a couple of houses. The storm is still ongoing in the background and the first character walks onto the bottom of the screen. 0.42-0.48
A laugh from the second character is heard from within the temple and some dialogue will follow; 0.48-1.10
Character1: Show your self *name*
Character 2 will walk from within the temple and stand atop the stairs.
Character 2: So, there was a survivor..
Character 1: You will pay for what you have done to my village.
Character2: hahahaa, You think you can do what your entire village could not?
Character 1: There were civilians, unarmed civilians.
Character 2: worthless creatures.
Character 1: SILENCE! (unsheathes weapon)
Camera snaps to a shot showing a focus on Character2
Character 2 suddenly throws some throwing stars at Character 1 and runs down the stairs un-sheathing his weapon as he runs.
Camera pans around with the stars and they fly past a building and goes slow motion as character 1 dodges the stars and deflects one with his sword.
As he looks up from it character 2 is runnign at him, their swords collide, and the fight breaks out, the camera stays close showing various angles and shot of the fight as the swords collide and near miss each other. Character one kicks character 2 in the chest knocking him to one knee and backflips away gaining a little distance
he then throws some Throing stars at character 2 who runs up a wall onto the roof on a building to escape them,.
Character 2 Jumps down from the roof wielding his weapon above his head and Roaring as he falls, the swors collide again and character 1 is knocked down into his back,
Character 2 stands over character 1;
Character 2: This ends now.
Character 1 suddenly sweeps character 2's leg to knock him off balance and rolls backwards and back onto his feet.
The fight starst off again with some quick action of the swords colliding, character 1 Kicks character 2 in the side of the chest as he Strikes his sword .
Character 2's sword flings through the air and lands stuck in the ground, Character 2 glances towards it for a split second as he does this, character 1 strike shim once across his chest, Character 2 falls to his knees, and looks up at character 1
Character 2: This is not the end for you.
Character 2 then slumps face down in the dirt and blood begins to pool around him, Character 1 places a blood stained teddy bear from one of his villagers nxt to the body, turns all walks off shot,
fade to Credits.
Fin


the layout is not perfect as it has not kept the format from the document, but hopefully its still clear.

Quick test render...

Just a quick render of the first shot, without the cliff done or the character in place. more animation will come on the clouds, Sea and rain. but this is more to see how I feel about the composition

Also, The pan down is nowhere near as big as I meant it to be! ill be redoing this so the drag down is longer and covers more of the sky.
retook the shot for a test, this is more how i want it to look, rains still a mess tho

Been a slow week...

not much done this week. but ive added some rough textures etc to my main scene just so you can get a feel for the overall look and layout of the scene

Alot more "clutter" to go on the ground, and 2 of the main buildings haven't been started yet but its slowly coming together. yet to play with the Shader I have built for the water, at the moment the Env Ball I've used for colour reference is abit Light for the scene

Also just had a play around with my opening scene, it starts at with the first image and pans down onto the second showing a character stood on the cliff edge before flashing to his memory of his village being massacred.
The rain looks rubbish, but its a work in progress never really used particles or dynamics before so just playing around atm. there will be Lightning and thunder in this scene as well.

character designs

Ive started to look into designing 1 of my characters, this guy will be the 2nd character, the "bad guy" heres a few sheets of him, and his accessories and what not..





I had a quick play just to knock up some quick models to see how i felt about some of the peices i have drawn, heres some quick renders.



I have also started to rough design the main building for the head of my scene, this is VERY early work and is only really a block out to feel the size and look of the temple.

Please bare in mind this is all still work in progress, and this is very early stage
This is my roughed out leecra reel, This is just to give some sort of timing and a look into the chain of events for my cinematic film. I will later work on this adding the effects and sound to bring it together more.

Story boards

I have started work on my story boards to try and bring my story together and give me a feel for it. i started with some rough small thumbnails just to try to plan out the events...

I then went on to rough out some larger versions of these thumbnails, the detail isnt great as Drawing is really not my strong point. so there basic and get the look of the film across i hope...





I will follow these up with a roughed out leecra reel.

Some research into scenes and characters...


These are just some basic game character is looked into for the styles used in games and how to replicate these successfully. I have looked at more, but I didnt wish to flood the page with images :)


Really just a couple of random images to show the sort of scene I am wanting to end up with, there is a bit of variation because i will be taking aspects from all sorts of images to create my final scene

Rough story Layout...

The idea of this shot is to set the start, give you some understanding of what has happend and to set up what will happen later in the film.
After 30 seconds or so of this the scene will fade, to the man Figure scene at the start walking off shot.

The next scene will open to a scene off a small village with a small temple and some buildings around it. the focus will be on the temple with one of its doors opened inwards. there will be a laugh from within the temple. and The figure seen at the start will walk onto shot from the left. he will shout out to the temple (Dialogue has yet to be decided in its full)
A second man will walk out from the temple, a more sinister evil looking figure with a mask covering his face leaving just his eyes really visible these will be like red voids.

After 20 seconds or so of heated conversation a fight will break out between the two, Again the exact details of this fight are yet to be fully decided, I know the fight will start by the second man using throwing weapons at the first character, and the first shot showing him dodging these and some fast cutting angles to the finer details.

This fight will continue for 45-50 seconds until character 2 is cut down and will fall to his knees.... I am looking to make him fall to his knees and fall face down into some sort of pond/fountain. but water effects absolutely terrify me right now. so ill look into it and decided more over the next few weeks.

I considering making character 1 leave some sort of mark so people will know it was him who attacked the man leaving the story open a tiny bit, yet ending this part of the story. The reason for this is as a game cinematic approach, the game would generally follow on form here and he hunts down the rest of this "clan" who have slaughtered his family and friends.

Bit late starting.....

When I thought about my idea and what I wanted it to be, I looked into where I wanted to be 5years;
Ideally I wish to be working within the gaming industry as a Cinematic video animator/modeller. So I decided I would work on something of a cinematic feel to it than a normal animated short. to achieve this I a realised I am going to have to create a drama that can work using quick cutting images, to show key points in the events and to create a more dramatic feel than displaying an entire event. 

After some thought over the summer holidays I came up with the idea of a Fight scene, I decided on the style and look I wanted to go for which is a Chinese styled fight scene during night, the events will be happening outside, so I have had to start to look into lighting and how to create a good dark night-time scene without the imagery becoming difficult to see. The Theme for this Cinematic animation will be "Revenge"
